Heritage Clubs to be Established in Schools of Madhya Pradesh : According to the circular issued by the Department of Archaeology, Tourism and Culture, Ministry of Madhya Pradesh and as per the directives of the Directorate of Public Instruction Bhopal. Heritage Clubs will be established in all schools from grades 9 to 12 in Madhya Pradesh. Through these clubs students will be able to recognize the historical and cultural heritage of their villages, state and country. They will understand the historical significance of these heritages and take responsibility for raising awareness about their preservation. These heritages bear witness to the glorious history and culture of the entire country.
In addition to textbook material students will be encouraged to step outside their classrooms to promote creativity and logical thinking. The aim is to help students recognize and preserve the historical and cultural heritage of their villages, state and country. Therefore Tourism and Heritage Clubs are to be established in all government and non-government high schools and higher secondary schools in the state.
Through these clubs students will not only develop an understanding of preserving and nurturing their rich heritage but also develop 21st-century skills.

Objectives of Heritage Clubs to be Established in Schools of Madhya Pradesh

  1. Provide Diverse Information:
    1. Offer diverse information related to regional heritage including history, art, culture, tourism, and architecture.
  2. Gather Information on Tourist Sites:
    1. Collect information about tourist sites and organize awareness camps.
  3. Organize Excursions:
    1. Arrange excursion programs to provide students with information about nearby tourist spots and regions.
  4. Cultural Camps:
    1. Organize camps through the department to promote Indian culture such as folk dances and ancient arts, to the public.
  5. Cultural Awareness:
    1. Introduce students to the culture, local dialects, folk arts and folk singing of relevant tourist sites.
  6. Promotion and Inspiration:
    1. Encourage students to promote and highlight these sites, making them attractive to curious tourists and providing new opportunities for youth through future tourist activities.
  7. Explore Local Heritage:
    1. Encourage students to observe familiar tourist and historical heritage sites, understand their historical significance, and become aware of their preservation. Identify unfamiliar historical heritages, gather information from village elders and reference books, compile and share it with the school and community.
  8. Pride in Heritage:
    1. Instill pride in students for their rich heritage and commitment to its preservation. Raise awareness about the preservation of historical heritage through the club.
  9. Engage in Activities and Competitions:
    1. Understand historical concepts and culture through interesting activities and competitions.
  10. Raise Cultural Awareness:
    1. Increase awareness about Indian culture, traditions, and history through heritage sites.
  11. Promote Creativity and Logical Thinking:
    1. Encourage creativity and logical thinking through projects that explore Indian heritage and share its significance with others.
  12. Preserve Traditional and Cultural Heritage:
    1. Collect information about traditional and cultural heritages (handicrafts, sculpture, painting, folk songs, folk drama and folk dance) and raise awareness for their preservation.

Organize visits to various sites of archaeological and cultural significance, museums and archives in different faculty groups and conduct the following competitions based on these visits related to Heritage Clubs to be Established in Schools of Madhya Pradesh :

• Media Literacy and Promotion: Develop students’ media literacy and technical skills by creating short films or photographing discovered heritage and tourist sites, and sharing them on social media for wider promotion.
Heritage-Based Film Screenings
• Film Screenings: For schools equipped with TV projectors, organize screenings of films based on the state’s historical heritage to educate and engage students.

Structure of Tourism and Heritage Club

Formation of Heritage Club in Each High School/Higher Secondary School

The member Heritage Clubs to be Established in Schools of Madhya Pradesh will be as follows:

  1. Patron: Principal
  2. Co-Patron/Coordinator: Teacher interested in history and heritage activities
  3. President:
    • A 12th-grade student (for Higher Secondary level)
    • A 10th-grade student (for High School level)
  4. Secretary:
    • An 11th-grade student (for Higher Secondary level)
    • A 9th-grade student (for High School level)
  5. Executive Members:
    • Two students from each class (covering all faculties/sections, one boy and one girl if the school is co-educational)
    • Thus, in each Higher Secondary school, there will be 8 students as executive members, and in each High School, there will be 4 students as executive members.
    • Including the President and Secretary, there will be a total of 10 students in the Higher Secondary School club and 6 students in the High School club.

Functional Body of Heritage Clubs to be Established in Schools of Madhya Pradesh

The executive body for Heritage Clubs to be Established in Schools of Madhya Pradesh will be formed every year in the month of July. The appointment of office bearers will be done by consensus or by ballot in the presence of the principal, entire staff and students. Two review meetings are proposed each year as per convenience.

Financial Facility of Heritage Club in School

Activities and excursions will be organized according to the resources available in Heritage Clubs to be Established in Schools of Madhya Pradesh to be Established in Schools of Madhya Pradesh.

Under the auspices of the Tourism and Heritage Club the Culture Department will organize competitions annually based on predetermined themes. These competitions will be conducted in four phases:

  1. First Phase – School Level
  2. Second Phase – District Level
  3. Third Phase – Divisional Level (optional)
  4. Fourth Phase – State Level

The competitions will be conducted in accordance with available resources in the respective schools. The organization of programs at the divisional and state levels will be coordinated in collaboration with the Departments of Archaeology, Culture, and Tourism and prizes will be distributed by the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board.

Training, orientation and publicity are crucial components for the effective functioning of Heritage Clubs to be Established in Schools of Madhya Pradesh. The idea of setting up Heritage Clubs to be Established in Schools of Madhya Pradesh across the country began in 2002 to make the students aware and be proud of the richness of the natural and cultural heritage in their own locality, state and country. At present, HECS has a nation-wide network which includes 4000 schools in 136 cities and town across the country. It has over 5000 members participating actively in its work.
